Welcome to the homepage of Boy Scouts of America Troop 53 in Bedminster, NJ.

The goal of Troop 53 is to provide young men and boys with a complete outdoor camping program. We firmly believe that the outdoor experience, when paired with the patrol and troop format leads to a superior degree of responsibility, leadership and quality of character in each one of our scouts.

The adult leaders of Troop 53 realize the importance of advancement through the ranks of Scouting, yet we do not plan our program around the desire to propel the boys from one level to the next. Troop 53 Scouts are encouraged to advance naturally by participating in troop and patrol activities and by striving to reach a common goal at the end of the year, the Scoutmaster's Honorary Expedition, a weeklong canoeing and hiking expedition in the wilderness of Maine or Canada. We believe that a quality outdoor program is the key to successful Scouting and advancement is a natural by-product of hiking, camping, and canoeing.

Troop 53 has an unusual camping style. We do not use gas stoves or charcoal for cooking and regularly start campfires with flint and steel rather than matches or lighters. We do not allow glass or metal containers including tin cans. We sleep under tarps instead of walled tents. You will never see Troop 53 camping from the back of a pickup truck.
